Patricia Field claims that JFK Jr. once used a trans slur in his shop
Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field claims she once fired John F. Kennedy Jr. from her shop for making fun of her transgender employees.
Field – known for hiring transgender people – wrote in her new memoir Pat in the City: My Life of Fashion, Style and Breaking All the Rules that John F. Kennedy and Jackie O’s son once came to her boutique in downtown Manhattan with his then-girlfriend Daryl Hannah.
The costume consultant for The Devil Wears Prada recalled that Hannah’s “girls went nuts” because she played a mermaid in Splash.
“Drag queens love good mermaids,” she noted.
Field claimed that the staff was “making a fuss” about Hannah and completely ignored her boyfriend, who was apparently annoyed at not paying attention to him.
“Looked around and said bunch of freaks,” Field wrote. “If JFK Jr. he wanted to draw attention to himself with his comment, he fulfilled his wish. All the queens in the shop were more than capable of dismissing anyone who was acting.
According to Field, one of the employees named Codie spoke up.
“If you don’t like it here,” she snapped at Kennedy Jr., “get the fuck out.”
“There was no room for interpretation,” continued Field. “He went to wait outside while his girlfriend was treated royally.”
Kennedy Jr. and the “Kill Bill” star dated off and on for five years before finally breaking up for good.
In 1996, he married fashion columnist Carolyn Bessette. Three years later they were together both died in a plane crash when a light plane piloted by Kennedy crashed off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard.
Hannah married rock legend Neil Young.
